Multiple domain names for SEO

Postby guest » Wed Oct 27, 2004 7:27 pm

Hi Guys I currently have an ecommerce website with a PR of 4, before i opened my store, i tried to capture the .com of my domain name but it was taken so i went with the .net, just recently i was able to obtain the .com version and i'm trying to find out if i can use both to my advantage or should i just use the .net and forget about the .com.

I originally wanted to point the .com to my current domain for those who might type .com instead of .net but i'm not sure if the search engines will drop my pages...also, are they other ways i can use the .com to gain more customers? Thank you

From an SEO stand point I believe it to be better to market two sites using different keyword terms on page for each. The more chances someone has to find you the better you are right?

Otherwise you could redirect the .com to the .net or vice versa whice ever one google favors in its index is the one I would redirect to.

You may also want to 301 redirect your domain.net to your www.domain.net if you havent already done so. Sometimes the search engines can index 3 different versions of an index page (example = domain.com, www.domain.com, www.domain.com/index). The ones that do not get favored usually stay in the index without title and description in the results, sometimes if you have the same title and description for two different domain urls and the same text content you can run into duplicate content issues.

As coop99 said, the only one way is to make a 301 redirect.Or you can make a diferent language on a net domain ;)

like others have stated, you should be fine with a 301 redirect.

or you can make a secondary site but you better make it unique with different words so u do not hit the dupe content filter.
