Yahoo search and Altavista search are they same ??

Both of they seem to have similar search results, don't they

any reason?

Is it like MSN and Live?

Looks similar but not at all,the thing is about these search engines that they are very relative to each other, for example Yahoo may supply Altavista with PPC results and Altavista may supply Yahoo with generic search results, or might be Altavista is owned by Yahoo so they have parent search engines.

Altavista is one of the search engine that is owned by Yahoo. so there is no proper difference. Both are search engines as well..

There is no difference Altavista acquired by yahoo in 2003 now backed by same algo

Almost all the sites will not be listed on all the search engines. So, back links will appear only from the sites which have indexed in the search engines.
