Bing Now Bigger Than Digg, Twitter and CNN

Post by calnettech »

With the headlines that Microsoft’s new search engine Bing (bing) has been grabbing, it’s easy to forget that it only went live about a month ago. Since its launch at the beginning of June, it has given Google pause and even had its own web infomercial.

But none of that matters if Bing doesn’t grow and find a way to compete with Google (Google). So after a month, where are we? We knew that Bing was growing, but the numbers being released tonight tell a tale of success, as Bing is now the 13th most visited site on the web.

According to Compete.com, Bing was able to amass 49.57 million unique visitors in its first month as Microsoft’s official search engine. Bing’s traffic trumps that of Digg (Digg) (38.96 million) Twitter (Twitter) (23 million), and CNN (28.54 million). We want to note that this focuses on U.S. visitors, since Compete does not track international visits.

Bing is now only beaten by 12 other websites according to the Compete numbers. Interestingly enough, one of those websites is Live.com, its predecessor, which actually garnered 79.4 million visits in June. This can mostly be attributed to the fact that a lot of Microsoft services, most notably Hotmail, are on the Live domain.

Still, Bing is showing some solid numbers for its first month in existence. That said, it’s got a long way to go before it can begin to challenge Google’s top position in search.

Current Bing visits+ Live Visits= Next Bing Visits

All think that Bing is a replacement of live and msn so that they will directly put the address of Bing and so that Bing will get those all visitors.

Bing is showing lots of potential, but their SE needs major improvement. The traffic it generates is not even close to Google. They need to give internet users better and impressive features.

In my opinion Bing needs more improvements to fight with google. I personally like Bing and using Bing for my normal searches.

I kinda wonder how Compete.com came up with such stats. What tool did they actually use? Bing looks promising, but there's no way it will ever beat Google.

It is not necessary to beat google but I hope in near future Bing will raise challenge to google. It is good for google too. They will upgrade their services when they challenged. As Internet users it is good for us.

I agree with Alex... You don't have to beat Google, you have to find your niche... I think bing has really turned up the marketing and started to carve out a nice niche for themselves...

The problem with BING is that it you need to be internet savvy to find the required information. On the other hand, Google is suitable even for a newbie. Anyway, BING will give a tough competition to Google in the coming days.

I have never used BING...and I'm not even curious right now...google is still the best, but like others already said, some competition is good for google.

The growth of Bing is quite impressive, but I'm quite pessimistic if they can live up with their targets. Their sudden popularity might just be ephemeral.

If they have really surpassed twitter then they might be really rocking the net scene! Bing has a long way to go before they get to google's position though.
