is there any free directory for free submission ?

There are many directories to submit links, but you also need to check if page rank value is above 2 if not don't bother to submit on that site.

I agree. Backlinks can still help promote your site. Just choose directories with high PR and that they allow a "do follow" link. And avoid link farms.
