Tips for Getting Listed in Dmoz

Becoming an editor is a good way to get accepted. Or submit to a category that has an editor already. It's not that hard to become an editor.

Read Dmoz guidelines carefully before submit a link in Dmoz. If you have new site then it wouldn't allow to submit link.

Make it as easy as possible for the editors. Make great effort to find the best category, the category you think an editor would want to place the site in, not the one you'd think would get your site the most hits. Make great effort to write a neutral "objective" (to the point of being boring, basically) description. Also use a super clean title. The title should be the website title as it appears in the site logo or so. Not one "superfluous" keyword attached.

Another strategy might be trying to figure out who the editors of the category your site should be listed in (again, the "right" category), and figuring out if you have somehow are connected to them through common relationships. Linkedin would be the natural tool for that.

Dmoz isn't and hasn't been down. Why do you think it is down? I don't understand.

It isn't hard to get accepted to be an editor. You have to apply to a certain category and write three listings for that category as part of the application process. If you do it right you will be accepted as long as it is not too big of a category for a beginner. Make sure to read a lot of listings and see how they are written, then write your three listings. The title should be the name of the company. The listing itself is one or two simple sentences that are not promotional.
