Usually people use keywords density analizers to optimize websites.
These tools provide the following information:
How may of your keywords are in meta title, meta desctiption, meta keywords, headers, alt tags, hyperlinks, first words, all body words.
You should not over stuff those things with your keywords to keep normal density. For example, in all meta things your keywords should be mentioned once or twice, Different keywords within different headers and alt codes should be mentioned. for example, 3, 4, 5 times. Within hyperlinks as much as possible, First words are very important, so you should try to use your major keywords there, but try to make user friendly text with your keywords.

Hope it helps.

Have a great day,
Peter

Link density is a measure of how many external sites have created links to yours. search engines use link density as a factor in determining the order of results, so having a high link density is very important.
