Many of the top search engines rank customers websites based on the links there are that point to the website? Trading links with other websites is a valuable method of promoting your website, and getting more traffic. Webmasters can generate more traffic and advertise their website using Link Exchange. More links to your website can drammatically improve your site ranking on the major search engines.
And i don't think that google punishes access reciprocal links.

Google will punishes the site and can negatively impact your site's ranking in search results. Examples of link schemes can include:

* Links intended to manipulate PageRank
* Links to web spammers or bad neighborhoods on the web
* Excessive reciprocal links or excessive link exchanging ("Link to me and I'll link to you.")
* Buying or selling links

I think Link exchange can do anything to PR on Google. But it is important you evaluated the quantity, quality, and relevance of links count towards your rating.

Yes pankaj you are right. one way link has more weightage but exchange link with a site relevant to your site ll not hurt position in serp.

as much as possible always go for one way link, but it's not bad to have a few reciprocal with related websites.

I heard that reciprical links with sites not related to your site but with high pr will benefit just as well as a non related site. Is this true?

I prefer one way linking to link exchange. do link exchange only with relevent site i ll not hurt search engine ranking. blogs is always useful in seo.
