I believe that links within the content are valuable since it's keyword rich.

Most article directories don't allow links in the article's content instead they have respective resource area for your links.

Generally i use article submission to get quality backlinks for my inner web pages.
Article submission is most effective way and essential part of link building if you get link from body part then its more beneficial according to SE views, but link from resource box is also can give you good response because you write also a small paragraph in your resource box with your keywords.
Thanks

article submission issues

I am posting articles on 3 or 4 article submission sites trying to spread out my submissions over a variety of sites. What I have noted is there is some variety on the submission requirements regarding what some sites consider submissions that are "too commercial" which translates to too many links back to my site. Be sure to read their guidelines carefully as submission can be delayed until you are in compliance.

Contextual links are the best, many article directories allow adding links at the last paragraph of the article.

Links from articles are counted as one-way links/backlinks. They can also drive traffic to a site.

Article submission can be a good source of quality backlinks. Just choose the directories with good PR and traffic. Submit your articles only to authority article sites for better results.
Articles Work For Me

I been marketing with articles for years now and get both traffic and backlinks in various engines. Even Google will sometimes count links from an article resource box as a backlink.
My absolute best results with article marketing have come by focusing on longtail keywords. If you know how to pick these types of keyword phrases, you can get quite a bit of traffic from articles. I find that I can get more traffic by focusing on longtail phrases and ranking high in an article directory versus pursuing a more competitive keyword where my article won't rank on the first page of Google.
