The best way to see the link popularity is to view the alexa tarffic ranking's or the easiest way is to download the megasearch toolbar from
http://www.megasearchbar.com .It gives overall site rankings & when you click on the ranking it takes you to the alexa's traffic & link details page.Try it
Also u can check ur PR at
http://www.top25web.com/pagerank.php
which also gives an estimation to your link popularity.

Why is there that difference between links listed at google and the actual links they have on their caches?! What does this mean and what influence does it have?
Same accounts for other search engines

Google still thinks that it is providing quality websites to the world. In order to do that, they only want to show the quality links that link to a website, not all the others like yahoo and msn. Google only wants quality, not quantity!

Thats true, I have seen that too. Google says they only take the quality links and show them, but I have seen ones that have no significance. Google shows a link to my site that is on a classified page and has no real significance or value. I just dont understand google sometimes!

One way of checking your link popularity is through searching for pages linking to your site. Since typing in "link:url" doesn't show all the links, use the tool at backlinkwatch.com instead.

Besides looking at the number of backlinks, another important thing to consider in assessing a site's popularity is the amount of unique traffic its gets. The higher, the better.

Look for some free tools over internet for finding out links to your website. If you would look through G then it will only tell you the important links and not all of them.
