* forum posting (through signature)
* web directory submission
* blog directory submission
* participating in community sites like Yahoo Answers
* press release submission
* online group posting
* promotional ads
* link exchange
* etc.

I forgot to mentioned "SOCIAL BOOKMARKING" ... one of my favorite.

It will help your site in terms of traffic and backlinks as well.

All of the above is great. More hits mean more chances for people to buy at your site. Its better to have 5000 hits and a hundred sales than 100,000 hits and 20 sales.

Do all of the above. Make a great site and send it to some friends.

Ask them these questions. How long before they got bored. Does the site have a look that is easy on your eyes.

Remember your site is your store front. If people are not going to stay they will click away. In that case put some google ads on the site so you will atleast get some cash for click throughs.
