good traffic comes from SE(search engines), and most important of them are google, yahoo and msn.
comment in different blogs , forums, articles are also good.
add your site where you can add and people can se your link!

First and foremost, you need to know your "target." What keywords do you want to optimize in the first place? Choose the ones that are less competitive so you'll have a greater chance of ranking high in SERP. From there, start your linkbuilding activities such social bookmarking, article submission, etc.

i would prefer stumbleupon and Digg.com to get free and huge traffic from there for FREE.

My best sources would be social networking sites, links on other blogs, and repeat visits from regular readers. One more thing is driving traffic from existing visitors is a good idea, just by adding a tell a friend button on web site -- you can try the free widget from SocialTwist, visitors can automatically email their friends about your website whenever they find something they'd like to share.

Find your competitors backlinks with aGoogle search like this:
link:www.CompetitorDomain.com
Then go to each of the links starting at the top that are listed and place your link there.

This gets you high-quality links on sites and pages that Google already recognizes and ranks highly.

I think social bookmarking is the best technique to get quality traffic to your site.
Most social bookmarking sites allow you to browse through the items based on most popular or belonging to a certain category like shopping, news, sports, finance etc.

I've been wondering the same question myself and I found my answer.
I've never used either Digg.com or Reddit. I will check it out.
