Thank you for the info! I actually wondered how search engines / webspiders calculate the linkpopularity, because they list very different numbers of links. Does it have to do with the text for the url linking to the web site?
My newest sites are

now I am wondering whether I should request to put certain text to the links to those sites.

Torsten, I would suggest you submit to directories. You can gain linkpopularity and anchor text you like.
You may use submitexpress quality service!

One way link (submitting to directories, forums, classified ads, articles) is indeed very helpful. I see a distinct improvement doing this.
I still couldn't submit my site to DMOZ.
