Blog commenting is also a way to build quality backlinks to your site. Just make sure you contribute positively to the topic in discussion! :)

A very good method = Write your one Module for CMS systems or make templates with your link in it, if only 1000 people use your template and leave your link at the bottom.... you will get quality links.

that's a very well written post on effective link building. I would also like to include social bookmarking and guest blogging as methods of link building.
