As much as i wanted to add, I think leftybogs mentioned all the things that needs to be consider in doing one way link exchange above.. Anyway, you also need to consider the time of waiting to other directories especially now free listing directories will approved your site usually it takes 3-4 weeks.. So the time consuming to have a one way link to directories is a bit long.. The best method here is forum posting attached your keyword as your anchor text.. Good luck to you! enjoy acquiring one way link exchange!

What about the natural way? Build nice content and/or tools that are relevant for your users, and that'll give you free one way links from relevant sites, which the safest and most valuable links. That's the way recommended by Matt Cutts: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/seo-advic ... nkbaiting/

Natural way like in forums.. Don't just say anything unrelated and or just agree and the like just to drop links.. be sure to participate with the said topic..

Link Baiting is very effective way to build links where you are bringing the links to you through unique and popular site content.
Content is gold. If you are focused on something unique on your site people will love it and link to you.
Later you can start with other technique as soc. bookmarkings, articles, directory etc....

One way links are good, but will be effective only when the links are relevant and come from quality sites.
