Better to get started with CPC. I would suggest starting with Google Adwords and if it works, then moe to Overture.
If you just wait you will not get any traffic. Your site needs to be optimized and you need a lot of links before you get ranked in search engines. You either need to spend a lot of time to research, learn and do it yourself or hire an SEO company to do it.

*** Don't make this mistake.......
Once you set your budget make sure you input a cost per click and turn OFF the part that lists your site on sites.
I think its called content.
1st day 10 hits each cost .80 cents out of a 50$ budget as a test Rut Ro.
I switched to the standard version set a cost per click at .08 The ads are going out and I have been tweaking it.
Here is some more info.

Read the forums for all the free ways you can advertise. But it does go slow.
Do a keyword search on martha stewart and find some that work.

Definitely go for PPC for a new website. May be you don't have good keywords rankings for new website. So, at the moment you can generate the leads with PPC and meanwhile you can also put heavy afforts for keywords ranking.
