Image Links VS Text links.
I am making a website at the moment, it would be easiest for me to cut up the navigation and add links to the images...this would also look better.
But is it better for SEO if I have normal text links with maybe a rollover using CSS?

Re: Image Links VS Text links.
depend of the proportion and importance between text and image in your content. If your site is about sculpture, you have less text and less important then the photo of the sculptures so your main traffic, use full traffic, will come from image search engine like google image, you must be friend with google image bot, and is important the file name, act as a keyword. The text link case seems clear, In both cases alt and title is important.
A text based link is still far superior over any image (whether the image has a keyword in its name and/or an alt tag assigned).

I think that while the image approach would clearly be sending content signals to Google, a text link would still be preferable, and that's actually what Google tells us. Use text for navigatino from page to page on your site through text links. That makes it easier for search engines to crawl and understand your site.

Why don't you just use the background images behind a text link? I don't know what your buttons look like but you can style text in a number of ways so they still look good.

We know search engine robots can't read image or flash or js. So text link is better than image link or anything else. Ultimately Google bots read the text from an image which is the keyword. So better use text link than image link.

I think you should use text instead of images to display important names, content, or links. The Google crawler doesn't recognize text contained in images.

Text links will definently pass more link juice than an image due to the fact that crawlers can better read the html text than alt attribute from an image, as it is more difficult to parse.
