Here's a great post from WMW called How would you spend an SEO budget?

It may give you a better understanding of how much you roughly need, and what to spend it on regarding your site SEO and promotion.

There are a lot of different ways to perform optimization, and many different ways to budget funds for optimization, so I would say it is a case by case scenario and you should prioritize the tasks into three categories.

Must Have Tasks...

Should Have Tasks...

Really Want Tasks...

Start with the "Must Have Tasks" and go down your list until you have implemented everything on all three lists, then start over again.

The cost would depend on what shows up on each list.

Coop99,

Thanks so much for your suggestion. What Task do you think is a Must? And how difficult is it to make my site listed as a top 10 in google? As you know, online shopping is a highly competitive keywords.

Admin,

I have requested a quote from you and am waiting for the final numbers.

I would say "Link Popularity and Directory Submissions" are crucial right now. You want to make sure your site is directing SE crawlers correctly to the right pages and is indeed indexing them. There are on-page factors that can be performed to help the process along. Since you use a CMS it will not be hard for you to update content regularly and keep your site "sticky," which is also a MUST. You need someone who is pro at keyword research in order to help you find the best keywords in a competitive industry and have a realistic chance of ranking under them.

Submit Express is one of the best. If you choose them they will do a good job making sure the MUSTs are in place and your site is well on its way to the top of the SERP's. They keep a good mix of the more "basic" SEO tasks and the more "advanced" ones at the same time.

*Patience is key. Google takes time and work to conquer!

Simply start building links from good relevant sites, for example my bathrooms web site has many relavant links from other bathrooms, shower and bathroom furniture web sites. This can be time consuming, but if your site looks good this is much easier to get links back from sites relating to yours.
