HTML validation, how important it is

Not that long time ago I was doing my website HTML validation every time I made some updates. But then I decided to stop doing that, because I was not certain of how important it is.

For curriosity purpouse I checked some of the other sites and noticed they can't pass HTML validation too. Here is my question, how important is HTML validation. If it's not, then do we have to focus on that matter.

IMO it's important to check out the codes to make each pages properly and i think that it's not a factor in ranking

If there is an opinion that HTML validation is ignored by many webmasters

theres alot sites that are not using any validation but still ranks well

then why do we need that HTML validaion at all, if anywhay it's not important?
If someone say it is important, then I was wondering how does it help to increase ranking.

i remember reading an article about this exact topic and the opinions for the top SEO experts is that it is advisable to have your code validate but it doesnt have any huge effect of serps. A problem would occur if the code was so bad that a googlebot could not read or index a site properly.

HTML Validation as per the WC standard does not directly effect the website but it will result in the look n feel & compatibility of the website with any platform & browsers used by many users across the globe...

IMO we should go with this activity for our website....
