Mostly, errors in coding and link structure of sites will prevent SE bots to index the entire site and stop on errors. Webmasters should always look up at this, including those deadlinks and not SE friendly urls...

Some errors may be acceptable but only to a certain point. Let's get down to details and discuss this issue more than the normal way. Show us more details.

W3C Validation Is Worthwhile

Personally, I think that it is very important to achieve validation or certainly to get the errors under 8. It shows that you respect a set of standards and have a willingness to "do things right". And my experience has been that our sites do VERY well in organic rankings. I believe that meeting W3C standards helps in strengthening our SEO efforts.

There are other benefits to achieving W3C validation but I can't share here how we use it and "school" my lesser competitors. Bottom line, YES, work for validation.

HTML Validation keeps your site easy to crawl by all the search engines... not only the top ones, but the lessor ones too that might not have the error handling that the top ones do... I've never heard of validation being used by the big search engines as one of the hundreds of factors taken into account for SE rankings, but it wouldn't surprise me that a site that validates gets a nudge higher than one that doesn't validate... I don't have any facts on this, but just a hunch..

So should you validate your site? I do.

Agree, lots of sites with no validation stay much higher than validated sites. I personally paid more attention to validation before by checking my site any time I made content changes. Then I noticed no matter whether I do vilidation or not, my ranking is not changing. Probably html validation is something that better to have if you have enough time to do it.

Have a great day
