Still confusing!! You get different streams of traffic to your websites and blogs depending on the SEO done to them and their popularity.
Or are you talking about redirecting your blogs to your website address?

What if you just do it both. Create a blog on your own domain, preferably in sub-folders then create another blog on other domains linking to your website. Just make sure they have different content but with relevance to make it very
SEO effective.

I prefer to have a blog in a separate or different domain with a different hosting account or IP address.
If that will be the setup, I'm sure it can give more weight to your main site.

I have 4 blogger blogs that point to my main WP blog on my domain, I notice and have tracked an increase in visitors from the blogger blogs.
I write teaser mini articles, with the main article of 500+ words on my site, then I tweet using twitter the mini articles and the following day I notice the increase in traffic.

If you host your blog within your own domain then it will help you.
Hosting your blog on an external domain wont help you in any way.
