There are five simple steps to make more traffic on your web

1. Make website SEO based and try to get high rank.
2. Purchase Advertisement package from big companies like yahoo, adwords.
3. Post your articles to directories about your new website and business etc.
4.Post Advertisement on different free advertisement websites.
5. Use traffic exchange program (exchange links with those website who have similar contents and information from your website)

I would agree with the first four but not with the fifth one. Traffic exchange is like a link farm and Google doesn't like link farms as far as I know. I think it's better to do manual exchange with relevant sites it takes longer but it gives better results. IMO

Following are some good strategies for traffic generation:
1. PPC and Google Adword
2. Squidoo
3. Free Ad and Classified Sites
4. Article Marketing
5. Video Marketing (through YouTube, MetaCafe etc...)
6. Submitting to Craigslist
7. Social Networking (through sites like Facebook, MySpace Etc....)
8. Blogging and Blog Commenting
9. Affiliate Marketing can also be a good source for generating traffic

The RSS feeds is definitely a good tip, for E-commerce a RSS feed for new products straight into Google (Froogle) is a good way of generating sales

Submitting Press release can also get you tons of traffic provided you have targeted right websites.

You forgot to mention social networking sites, social bookmarking sites and social media sites. All three are also effective in generating traffic.

And another thing, I may have to disagree with TE's because they're considered as link farming.

The list lacks other effective methods in boosting traffic such as social bookmarking, video promotion and social networking. These things should be included in the list.

these are not tips in-fact every body does know about these, even those don't know any thing about SEO they know they have to do SEO or They have To purchase add space on some nice site, nothing new in your post
