I came across one question from my friend.

He asked,is twitter a social book marking?
I replied, no it is a microblogging.

There is a difference between two.

He showed me online that some sites are using the term "social bookmark site" for twitter.

I am gettting confused.

Help me out.....

Twitter is both free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read each others' updates. In their sites, Twitter is defined as a free social messaging utility for staying connected in real-time.

Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters, displayed on the author's profile page and delivered to other users - known as followers - who have subscribed to them. Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends or, by default, allow open access.

I don't really consider twitter as a social bookmarking site. But more on a social networking and mini-blog site. :)

It can be both but twitter is best known as a miniature blog. Micro-blogging is defined as a quick update usually containing a very limited number of characters. It is a popular features of social networks like Facebook where you can update your status, but it has become best known because of Twitter.
