If you will search you will get lots of ebook to learn SEO. Even here in this forum you can get very informative threads and resources to learn SEO. I would personally suggest you that you learn it and at the same implement it which will give you experience. SEO is not just a very simple to learn overnight. try to grab a good ebook to learn from scratch.

SEO is quite complicated to explain in one or two posts here. I'd suggest you pick up the book "Search Engine Optimization for Dummies" and give it a good read. It covers all bases, a good starting point.

After you understand the concept, SEO forums are good places to learn the latest.

Basic SEO, you should learn first the on site and off site optimization and follow by a keyword analysis, i know you want to learn but first of all learn to search for your question.

If you want the basic of SEO's, you need to read first the concept and the idea of the job..Its cycle and the benefits of it before you go through the so-called link building process.
