search engine behaves in real

hello everyone i am website designer in bitwords.
i never do any seo practice but i can confidently say that search engine like Google just behave in real time.
for example what do you think when you have to visit a business place where you never go. Well you will give it highly importance if you find a number of references of that place from others business.
Same Google behaves to give importance to a website. A website suppose has links back from a .gov website. Like if a news is propagated on TV by a government person. So it will be highly valued.
Google gives importance to those websites which have their links on such websites.
