The user intent, or search intent states that goal or intention a web user has when coming into a search term into a search engine. User intent is currently a central factor in content and search engine optimization and is eclipsing individual keywords as a dominant ranking issue.

Behind every Google search, there is an intention. People are looking for something in particular when they’re searching the web -- the answers to their problems, information about the services available to them or sources for the product they want. If you want your business to be discovered by users on the web, your content needs to be optimized for user intent.

User intent goes beyond keywords to describe what a user is looking for when they turn to a search engine. User intent tells us the reasoning behind the keywords and phrases the user chooses.
