Yes, you are right. There are so many techniques in SEO to promote the site. But black hat technique is one of the most dangerous. But it is found that most of the SEOs are use this tech. BTW you have done a good job of your site promotion.

Instead of hiring any SEO professionals I prefer to do it myself for my blogs & also have done SEO for some sites who hired me.I'm on google first page for some of my keywords & am happy with it.
