I highly discourage people to submit their websites to auto approval directories... Google only puts value on the high authority ones...which have manual approval

Definitely, those free for all links site would more likely become bad neighbor in the future with those un-moderated and so many irrelevant backlinks...

We can get just backlinks from these sites, but its not much of use. Traffic and SERP ranking is needed.

In my opinion, directory submission is being disregarded because of the booming industry of Social Media Marketing.
