I'm also new in SEO. What I did was, I read SEO articles and tutorials. At first, I find it hard to understand specially I have no idea about the this field. But I'm learning a lot. I also suggest you read articles and if you got tangled in some thing about it just ask and I bet there will be a lot of answers.
In SEO, you have to optimized or to improved the visibility of your site for the search engine such as google, yahoo, bing etc.
