Bounce rate is the percentage of single-page visits or visits in which the person left your site from the entrance (landing) page. Use this metric to measure visit quality - a high bounce rate generally indicates that site entrance pages aren't relevant to your visitors. The more compelling your landing pages, the more visitors will stay on your site and convert. You can minimize bounce rates by tailoring landing pages to each keyword and ad that you run. Landing pages should provide the information and services that were promised in the ad copy.

We can check the interest level of the visitor through bounce rate on all web pages or on the website. It is the excellent way to analyze the visitors. for example if I am getting visitors from a famous blog, who are just visiting for seconds and bounce rate is more than 80 or 90%, then it is utterly waste to get visitors from that website. So, after analyzing we came up with some website, where posting or visiting is waste of time, this is the way people analyze the visitors.

Bounce rate is a very important metric for website owners. It basically tells you what percentage of your visitors are “bouncing” away after landing on your site (e.g., they just visit one page and leave before clicking on to a second page inside your site).

There are many factors of high high bounce rate, one of them is Paid traffic or traffic from referring sites i think traffic from search engines has much better conversion rate than referring sites traffic.

Discussion is really nice. But i am not agree with many of comments.
See Bounce rate is important but not as much.
Why people can't understand You can't justify site with bounce rate.
I have a site, It contains a single page. So it is obevious it bounce rate in 100% even more than 100 Unique visiotr comes to site. that doesn't mean that website is not intresting content or desing.
