Well, directories submission pretty helps in getting backlinks but doing this techniques is not enough, you should do more techniques other than that, as directories some kinda hard to get backlinks, as your post not posted instantly, they do review it first before posting it to their directory.

Is it Instant approval website...Web directories are now less effective then earlier ones..

It is one way to increase the traffic on your site, make sure that you won't spam it. Much better if you promote your site in a reputable directory websites in this way your not just intent to attract visitors at the same time it can also help to get backlinks.
