What’s DNS ?

Post by Branco »

DNS is a protocol that allows you to associate a domain name example:www.axelaris-hosting.com,to an IP address. However, to avoid the kind of numerical addresses 196.183.159.29, difficult to remember, especially when it comes to remember websites we've saw during the day. Users prefer a domain name that is friendly and easy to spell.

can we dissociate our IP address with the help of this protocol from the domain name ?

A DNS hosting service is a service that runs Domain Name System servers. Most, but not all, domain name registrars include DNS hosting service with registration. Free DNS hosting services also exist. Many third-party DNS hosting services provide Dynamic DNS.

Domain Name Servers (DNS) are the Internet's equivalent of a phone book. They maintain a directory of domain names and translate them to Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. This is necessary because, although domain names are easy for people to remember, computers or machines, access websites based on IP addresses.

The domain name system (DNS) is the way that internet domain names are located and translated into internet protocol (IP) addresses.

The domain name system maps the name people use to locate a website to the IP address that a computer uses to locate a website. For example, if someone types TechTarget.com into a web browser, a server behind the scenes will map that name to the IP address 206.19.49.149.

DNS, which stands for domain name system, controls your domain name's website and email settings. When visitors go to your domain name, its DNS settings control which company's server it reaches out to.For example, if you use GoDaddy's DNS settings, visitors will reach GoDaddy's servers when using your domain name. If you change those settings to user another company's servers, visitors will reach them instead of us when visiting your domain.

DNS translates domain names to IP addresses so browsers can load Internet resources. Each device connected to the Internet has a unique IP address which other machines use to find the device. DNS servers eliminate the need for humans to memorize IP addresses such as 192.168.

DNS "Domain Name System" is the phonebook of the Internet. Humans access information online through domain names, like nytimes.com or espn.com.
