Re: Long tail keywords
I like long-tail keywords. They are better because they are less competitive but you can still generate good search volume.

Re: Long tail keywords
yes i use them all the time. Usually i will target a primary keyphrase and then followed by long tails of that primary phrase. Example would be like "dog training" followed by "dog training collars" and then followed by an even longer phrase like "dog training collars for small dogs"

Re: Long tail keywords
it is used to describe the strategy of targeting less-competitive niche markets rather than the hugely competitive broad keywords. A long tail keyword is something like ‘Small Business Web Design’ while a short wail keyword is something like ‘Web Design’.
it is pretty much an advantage, using long tail keywords, but you must also watch out for keywords that often comes into the ideas of searchers.

Long tail keywords are not more beneficial as seo point of view. After instant search it has completely finished. I do not use long tail keywords.

Re: Long tail keywords
First let’s find out what is a long tail keyword? These are primarily 3 or 5 keywords which are very specific to what your website is selling and what people are looking for. Keyword tools like wordtracker and keyword discovery help you find out keyword phrases for that specific market. An example would be, if you are looking to position your hotel located near casin0s in Atlantic City for a discount package, a good long tail keyword phrase would be “atlantic city cas1n0 hotel package discount”.
There are 3 benefits to having long tail keywords
Here’s benefit #1. When you have a specifically targeted long tail keyword, customers are looking for exactly that particular information. These specific search triggers higher conversion to your website than the other generic keywords
Secondly, specific multi-word keyword phrases have a tendency to rank much higher and better than single or dual word keyword phrases. For example: “romantic jacuzzi hotel rooms in atlantic city new jersey” would rank much better because people are specifically looking for hotels in Atlantic City with Jacuzzi versus having a generic keyword like “Jacuzzi hotels NJ”
Also in my research I found Google prefers sites which have lot of good content. Make sure to offer substantial, unique and relevant information to each and every page. And incorporate long tail keywords to these unique pages.
Finally, here’s a cool tool that will help figure out your websites long tail keywords or help you spy on your competitors long tail keywords which are ranking high; through seodigger. It is a free tool which allows you to put in your website URL and shows all the top 20 keywords that rank high. Go to http://seodigger.com and register yourself for free.

Re: Long tail keywords
Aside from being less competitive, long tailed keywords are also effective if it is location specific. So, instead of just using the basic keywords of your niche, add the location that you are serving. This would surely bring in more traffic your way.

Re: Long tail keywords
The positive thing about long tail keywords is that they are less competitive. But not only that, sometimes they can bring small but valuable traffic.

Re: Long tail keywords
An important marketing concept known as "The Long Tail" is used to describe the hundreds to thousands of keywords and key phrases that a website is found for, yet rarely noticed or exploited by owners of the website.
The principle of the Long Tail is the opposite of focusing on the top 10-20 keywords for marketing your website. The "top keyword" concept is reinforced by agencies that contract to gain rankings for 10-20 terms, maybe 30. However, when studying the referrals from the search engines and the traffic they generate, those that focus on the top 10-20 terms may be missing the majority of their market.
People tend to focus on the thousands of visitors that come to the site for the most popular terms. Most site managers are very happy to see the numbers increase for those specific terms, and even happier to see those terms consistently ranking well. Conventional thinking applies the 80-20 rule that the top terms provide 80% of the business, but in evaluating multiple sites, this has proved to be the opposite.
In most cases, the top 10 terms provide a lot of traffic, but not nearly as much as the total terms after the top 10 or 20 most popular. Add up the terms that refer 1-3 visits during the month, and chances are, they will add up to more total visitors than the top terms. On closer examination, most sites will have the majority of their business (sales and leads) generated from these terms that are rarely tracked. This is the heart of the long tail -- the length, or total number of low-number referred terms outnumbers the height, or the total of top 10 terms.
Thanks.............
