optimizing for Google is the key for e-marketing?
Yes, if you are planning to do an e-marketing, optimize your website will be the best thing. Normally, sixty percent of the traffic goes to Google. Therefore, it's better you target Google when you optimize your website. Your page rank depends on how many links your website has and how long the website has been around. When talk about well-known domain, it doesn’t matter for page rank. But, if you have a well-known domain name it can be good for your business because the popularity of your domain name.

To obtain high traffic for webpage
Hi Mike,
If you want to obtain high traffic for your website, optimization is required, but you also have to do something else in addition to it, like different types of advertizing, participating in forums with the signature containing your domain name, writing articles online, exchange links with the other relevant good quality websites, post your links on diferent online directories, do e-mail marketing and so on.
Talking about well-known domain name you are planning to use, that will help, but before picking domain name you have to think about how relevant that name will be to your site content, that is obvious. The only popularity of your domain name alone will not help if it's not exactly relevant to your site content, then you will fail with optimization. As I said, optimization is not the only one thing you need for success, but it's still important key for your site ranking.
Hope it helps
Have a great day,
Peter

Of course..
Google seems to dominate for search engines use. Since more people use Google than yahoo nowadays and a lot of people out there care about what google says about pagerank and so forth, Google is the way to go and can be friend or foe.

Friendly Environment
As far as I know, Google likes visitors friendly websites, and it doesn't like when webmasters using tricks to spam the search engines. So, good optimization is a key, I mean really good one without tricks. And webmasters also have to consider a big competition when it comes to the most popular keywords and frases. But, if webmaster is ready to pay big money for the certain position in Google's sponser's list, probably in that case, optimization doesn't make any difference.
