my website is falling down the google rankings

hi, Can anybody please help. I'm trying to get myself up the google rankings for my website http://www.1stforplanthire.co.uk I'm new to this game. I've been told that I need to log with lots of business directories and this will help my website. I've been doing around 5 per day for 4 weeks and if anything I'm dropping down the rankings not climbing. Have I been given the wrong information ?
