According to WebCEO (the software that I use for text optimization), no more than 10% for the body section...for me, something between 4% and 8% is the best advice

Yes, Big G is not put more weight on keyword density. You better put your effort on theme keywords based on Latent Semantic Indexing.

The percentage of Keyword in the Content is called as Keyword density.

Google gives best results for Keyword Density 5-7%,

and Yahoo follows 4 - 5%.

Better to use 4 %.

Does google count image file names in keyword density or just alt tags?

just thought of another question:
Does anyone think that pages with fewer total words are allowed to have a higher keyword density?
My site basically has one sentence per page and then some page header text, navigtional text, and several alt attributes. So maybe 100 total words per page and I have pages on my site where 11% density beats 5% for the same keyword. It seems to be a bit of a crapshoot actually- I don't really see much of a pattern to what density works for my site.

Can you explain this in a bit more detail
(maybe an example) i'm not getting this part
I try to place keywords in sentences where the rest of the sentence needs it and it has connecting words & synonyms
I may just be tired but thanks in advance

What happens when Google penalizes a web site for too much use of keywords? Will you web site be banned from google? Have you encountered anyone who has been banned because of spamming?

Ban is applied only in extreme cases. Most common effect of high keyword density is filtering your site for a specific keyword.

Exemple: to many games words on your page will get a for word games.

I think the best practice is still to concentrate on the site content. Only with good content, then you will get lots of visitors.
