Doing those things are the most risky method...Once G found out that you are doing blackhat method and buying text link in order to gain backlinks...you'll get from banned or your pages will be supplemental or penalize.

Has anyone tried Google maps? If so, have you seen a rise in traffic? Will being listed on G Maps get me backlinks naturally? I am new to all this SEO stuff but I find it very interesting and fun. Thanks for any input.

social bookmarking is a good source of one way traffic....
