Getting listed in Google in under a day is quite easy! secret is
"If you can manage to get 1 PR5 website to link to your website, you will be indexed by Google in under 3 days. If you can get 1 PR6 website to link to you, then you will be in Google's index in under 24 hours!"
why need 1 day

Now google index your pages with in 10 - 20 minutes times. Use
http://www.feedburner.com .
no need any PR5 site. it is all FREE

That's true but I don't think one will be in this much hurry to get listed in hours! If one wish to get list his site in Google then he can wait for a week not a big deal. Have a look at this discussion

its not a big deal to get indexed in a day... seo is a continuous process and your site will surely indexed if you didn't do black tricks...

I agree that Google pay attention to RSS feeds. But as a webmaster we already have some PR5/6 websites so add link on that websites and get index your new site in under a day.

I've read at a few places that submitting to google is a big mistake in regards to the rankings. I know it does take a long time that way....but can someone throw some light on, if your site got indexed naturally (through a backlink etc) it will have much better rankings than if it gets indexed by submitting to google?

I doubt google would penalize you for submitting yourself to them. They would want to encourage that so they remain the best search engine.
What is more likely is that when you submit your site google indexes it but does not calculate all the backlinks to your site until it has crawled other sites where it sees your name. So after a few days you'd probably have the same rank as if you had waited to submit your site.
Anyone care to try?

I think pinging your blog actually indexed your site easily by Google.

Pinging and using feeds like feedburner will help to crawl and index your site. Just keep on updating regularly and you'll see the developments after a couple of days.

Submitting to bookmarking site like digg,reddit and other well known authority bookmarking sites will get your page be indexed faster. Submitting a xml sitemap to Google do also help in order to get your pages and inner pages be indexed quickly.

if you can submit your website sitemap to G then this can help you in getting indexed in just one day or even less
