I thought high PR web directories were great but many of them have lost PR during the past couple of weeks.

Are such directory links really bad?

Directory links are not bad, you just have to choose wisely in submitting your site.

With regards to the PR drop, one of the reasons for that is the 'paid links' issue

As what bogs and aira said, one of the issue why most directory lost their PR because of paid links.. which we all known that it is against by the TOS of google..

I think they got penalize due to they are selling paid links

Sites that really lost PR are those who sell links.

Those directories that lost PR are warnings from google for those who wants to sell and buy links.

I don't think it will be correct to say that loosing PR is simply Google reaction on selling or buying links. Not just directories lost their PR, but the other sites too, even those who never sell or buy links. I personally don't sell or buy links and try to gain them natural way, but anyway my site lost PR too, probably it happen by another reason, don't know why.

Google still filtering those site who's selling links.
