Hi was always on page 2/3 (would prefer 1 but just can't get there!!)for "wedding invitations" and page 1 for christening invitations.

For wedding invitations I have been dropped like a lead balloon. Literally!!! dropped to page 9 overnight then the next day back to page 3 then the next back to page 10 now I don't even know where I am.

I then did adwords and today have reappeared at page 7 within half an hour and then page 4 this evening...what does this mean??

Any advice would be helpful I do the website myself but I have only a very basic knowledge of dreamweaver.

am I doing something obviously wrong here?

Sometimes you can find fluctuation in ranking in serp its natural but if you are doing optimization and site is droping in ranking then you should check what techniques you are using for optimization.

I thought I was I am doing links via a manual basis...ie the traingle effect who is linking to page one competitors and getting them to link to me?

did use a link exchange but read somewhere this was not a good idea so knocked it on the head.

changed my title to reflect the required characters.

the only thing I can think is I put an animated gif on my home page and as soon as I dropped I went in and put my page back to the way it was...see cache version

I think changing title might affect your ranking.
Basicaly, title is very important factor that all search engines (including Google) pay the biggest attention. Your ranking really depands on how the SEs consider the changes you made within your title. I've already noticed it in my website, when I changed the title my website was also dropped in ranking

Talking about backlinks, they also could be tricky, because if you linked to the banned site or gambling site, etc, it will affect somehow your site too. IMO

I had a trial version of IB and they recommended changing it down as there were too many characters..I think it is the links myself how would I find out who it is?

Your site might be suffering from google dance dude.. just continue acquiring related links so your SERP rankings will improve. Also check your backlinks because as what peterko said awhile ago.. maybe your site had some link to banned or penalized site.

So how do I find out who is banned and who isn't do i have to check every link?

these kind of fluctuations happen every now and then ...so no need to worry

I think Dewey is not yet finish so don't stop optimizing your your site anything is possible just do the right thing.

I think google is doing something about now, a lot of my sites are jumping up and down in SERP.

What about your other keywords, are the fluctuating in the same manner or you still keep a good ranking?

Today lot of fluctuations are going on....its like a rollar coaster ride for one of my site..the traffic starts ...stops and then again starts....dont know what is going on..how is every one else's stats ?

I have seen changes with sites which are always on top list. Thier sites now been jumping up and down. Google definite have done something with serp.
