What do you mean by the most popular search engines? I am not sure if your website will get any significant traffic outside Google, Yahoo and MSN

I dont think submitting to search engines is of any help to the older indexed sites..but for the new sites...yes that is a good idea.

Submition of site to the SEs doesn't give you much benefits. Anyway you have to start building your backlinks. But since you start building your backlinks your site will be automatically noticed and indexed by the major search engines. So, whats a purpous of submition to the search engines? It doesn't help too much

AFAIK, it's not necessary anymore to submit your site to SE since spider will crawl an index your site even if you didn't submit it.

Submitting to Search Engines is just a waste of time though.. Instead of submitting to those, better build links through forum posting.. Just my thought..
there's no point in submitting sites to SEs

I submitted my site
www.independentinvestor.co.uk to something like 20 search engines and had nothing, I wasn't listed. Then I got a few posts and a few backlinks and now my site is indexed by Yahoo only, but I started building links yesterday, so no complains.

Yup, its a waste of time to submit in search engine but some people say there's nothing wrong and nothing will if submit to search engine. Eventually search engine will find your site if you optimize your site properly.

Submitting on Google are quite difficult but it is also worth it once your site has been accepted because it brings good traffic and rankings to your site.

Why don't you use google analytics, it's quite simple but does the job. Give it a try
