Hi,
I have recently started a new website and have been using automated query tools to check my link popularity and keyword rating.
I've just read google guidelines and it said it was a bad idea to use such tools. Taking into account that I was also planning on getting an SEO software to monitor my website promotion I was wondering if it was safe to do?

you can check link popularity manually type link:domainname in google search box it will display backlinks of site.
you can use tools for keyword research link adwords.google.com, wordtracker. webceo is a good tool for promotion of a site.

Agreed! I think there are no accurate tool specially free.

Its ok to check it online (free tools) but make sure that you are going to double check it manually for you to see the changes

It is not bad idea to use those kind of tools, just before you use them, search about it, is it really helpful, check of hidden agendas...

I agree manual procedure or setup is still a good move rather than automation so everything will look natural. It will build links slower than the other one.

I've always checked my sites with those SEO tools and have never been penalized for it (that I know of). Seems like it would be too easy to hurt your competitors' rankings if Google really did penalize for link checking.

I use this tools myself in checking my links. I also use google webmaster tool.

Which one do you prefer most? Have you noticed the "difference" between manual and automated?
