Yeah man! Read about that two days ago. They are now emphasizing more on content, now it will be really difficult to get top rank on Google.

Just make sure that your site is having valuable and rich content. Also do not use duplicate content, it may harm your ranking.

After Google's Hummingbird update, ranking high on Google became difficult. As all you said I also think that they are emphasizing more on content now so we should use rich content in our sites.

“Hummingbird is a definite expansion of Google’s semantic capability evident at the search interface level that reveals, significantly, two things,” said David Amerland, search engine expert and author of Google Semantic Search, “First, Google has increased its ability to deal with complex search queries which means that it also has got better at indexing entities in Web documents. Second, it has got a lot better at relationally linking search queries and Web documents which means that its Knowledge Graph must be considerably enriched.”
So its effect depends on content..If our on page optimization is good then we will get good results..
