before you build your links, work on your contents, site structure and more about your page so when it was indexed, google gonna love you site.

Sign up on Google Webmaster and use the services there specially sitemap, site authentication, etc. Then get good backlinks, even few but those who have good quality. Bookmarking will also help a lot.

Consequence is the key. When you do all what is wrote before me get links to your site. Work on content and get links. That's the key :)

Good titles to your pages : 3-5 words top and different title per pages.

Good meta "description" that contains the main keywords you are targeting and different description per page.

Good content with some rules :
1. the content on the page is relevant to the title
2. have an <h1> tag with the title repeated at the beginning of the article (you can style this with CSS so it won't look like an <h1>)
3. the keywords from the title and other secondary keywords that you are targeting to be embeded in the content.
4. if there are other pages that are related to others or if a page contains terms that need to be explain in other pages use descriptive links with relevant text
5. build a FAQ and/or a Glossary page with specific terms that you can link to (use anchors)
6. keep adding content

Good luck

Sitemap is not necessary, but it will help you out a lot, if you are missing something with your website seo.
Link building in forums, blogs and press releases websites will help you to get indexed quickly in Google.

To get listed in google, it is really essential to get some authority backlinks. There are a couple of such free sites out there, try googling for them.
The age of the sites also play an important role. Getting a link from those sites will definitely boost ranking of your site.
