It is taking me a long time to start to get some good search results for my site,at times it comes up in the rankings then fallss and this seems to be a cycle that is happening..

If you have a very competitive niche, it will be exponentially harder to rank well if you're targeting broader keywords. Obviously, you will want those broad keywords in your content but try focusing on long tail keywords with less competition but using the broad keywords within the same article. Do this naturally, not stuffing it full of keywords without keeping the readability of the content. It may take a little longer but if your content is well written, eventually you will start ranking higher for the broader terms as well.

Anchor text and backlinks are very helpful - in fact, backlinks are pretty crucial in themselves. However, that is not the entire answer. There are many basic SEO techniques to incorporate into your pages, not just those two. With SEO, you must do it all on a regular basis for consistent results. Of course, you need to start with good keyword research or you'll be just shooting in the dark.

First work on contents, make a a good but different topics about your niche compare to your competitors. Bots love new and unique contents, also keyword emphasizing will surely help for your keywords to be noticed on your page.

Then let your site indexed and cached more often, bookmarking and different submissions will help.

Also consider Title tags and experiment with keyword density in your title tags.

Getting stable result on rankings is not that easy. Just take your time in getting quality backlinks to your site in order to increase your relevancy as well as your site's popularity. This is normal if your site is new and if your niche has a high volume of competitors.

You will lose some, you will gain some, and some will be ussless

but out of all that you should get enough to get your PR high enough to make a differnce.

From what i heard getting it up to 3 is relativly easy.

Your ranking would depend on your linkbuilding activities and how competitive your target keywords are. Choose more specific kws to achieve better google ranking.
