Google Targeted Page Title Should be:
1. 70 Characters or Less
2. More than 70 characters
3. Less than 70 characters

Better to use less than title tag is 65 characters.

There are different opinions how big should be the title tag.
For example Submit Express suggests the title length to be no longer than 80 characters (check their analyzer tool)

The reason why we should limit characters in title is that, that is the only number of characters that will be shown in Google search so better arrange well all important keywords on first words of the title, although we can still include some more words beyond that limit.

There are different views on how many characters to be use in titles to optimized the page but one thing is just don't over do it...focus on the keywords which defines the page.

A short title under 65 characters would be the optimum one.
Lengthy titles look spammy.

Why only 70 characters?
If you use a long title,anyhow that full title wont appear in SERP's

Prefer 60 to 65 characters it's better.
