using that command site:
www.yourdomain.com is the correct and easiest way to check if your the page is indexed already...just type it on G search box.

Try to sign up for a Google Webmaster Tool and follow the submission instruction there, after couple of days you will get comprehensive reports about your sites data including the indexed pages of your site. Good luck.

go to a SE then type "link:
www.yoursitename.com" or go to the site explorer
of the SE you can see all your backlinks that crawled by the SE

Google webmaster tool not only shows a good portion of your links (not all), it also gives out broken links and other useful info.

There are some special programms to check wether the page was indexed, seoquake is pretty nice
