Can you tell me "Does web directories affect the ranking of the site?"
and also help me out by giving some list of directories..

Yes, directory submission is a good part of link building and it is useful for creating some valuable links to your site. You can get some nice data of directories as "jgalty" suggested.

web directories are one way links to your site, so it'll be useful to increase backlinks and maybe traffic for you

It's usefull thing, but you always must use a unique title and description in every new directory

The benefit of submitting to directories is that you can get one way free link from them and you can use your keywords as your anchor text. Directories are also good in order to increase your backlinks. Here are some

Hey dude, only high PR web directories are useful to rank the site. Good backlinks will get you higher rank.

Submit to the sites on our best free directory list. These are established sites that have actively adding free submissions.

They say that directories is not that effective like old days but I think backlinks still a backlinks.

I definitely agree with you. Don't mind the number of directories focus on quality. 20 quality directories are good enough.
