I'm doing seo with the keyword telephone answering service in UK. how much time it takes to get 1st position in Google.co.uk?

First you have make a keywords research and analyze your competitors. Normally a keyword ranks quickly unless it has a huge competition.

I think that its a 3 months period.

Google Did't gives you the ranking if you are doing over optimization. you need to focus on Quality Work With Quality Content. Make Real Backlink author wise google did't gives you the ranking.

Google see lots of factor before giving you the rank

Google gives high weightage to your site if you are having strong on page SEO. To be on first page you need to have strong on page seo... so check your on page first and then finalize your strategies...
