Search engines have limited ability to read Flash files. If you want good SERPs, avoid using Flash predominantly on your website. Especially as an "entry" type page into your site.

Google is now indexing flash.

If a flash file loads external Adobe SWF file(anoter flash file),it can now be tied up to the parent file while indexing, according to latest official decleration by goolge.

The entire flash indexed content is now contributing in SERPs.

Using FLash at the front page may not be a big problem at all. Just avoid from placing it everywhere in your site.

Using Flash for your website is fine, as long as it's for the graphics and not focused so much on the website's text-based content.

Google already improves it's indexing ability with flash sites and contents, here's the details:

Google has new algorithm now that can indexed the content in swf file. The algo is like the way they index pdf.

Even though Google can index some flash, it still doesn't read flash as easily as it reads regular text. And it doesn't really pay much attention to meta. You could use flash on your front page, but it's better if you don't.

Google has already improved its ability to index textual content in flash files. The indexing time, however, takes longer than texts or images.

From my experience, google can read flash. I have seen a pure flash website being indexed and returning text contained in the flash.

However, you must consider that google is not the whole internet. There are some other search engines that may drive you decent traffic. There may be a niche search engine that would bring you some visitors if only it could read your site. Also, even though google can read flash, it can not direct visitors to the most appropriate part of it.

Summary: If I wanted to rank high in google and other search engines I would stay away from flash websites.

Now google can index flash, but google's arithmetic for flash is not perfect.

Google is difficult to handle Flash content inside the text.

Well its not true now, because now google and yahoo both are like to index flash sites and flash files Too, yeah in past they don't like Flash but now they do

There is a way to optimize flash but for me, using flash on websites is a big no no.. It takes time to load and visitors might get bored on waiting for your site to load completely.. This results to get higher amount of bounce rate..
