Is Directory Submission worthy to do?

Google is getting More User Friendly. And no visitor bats an eye over Directories. And many competitors tend to create tons of directories but still they fail to rank in serps. Does it still influence the ranking ??

What is a Directory Submission and When is it a Bad Idea? ... in bulk but have no clue which directories are worth linking to. ... and it is evident that some directory links, such as Yahoo or DMOZ, still do carry SEO importance.
